EDU 587 - Literacy in the Content Areas

This course is designed to provide educators with methods of enhancing students’ abilities to access discipline-specific reading material and to communicate successfully about the discipline through writing.  Reading and writing frameworks that support students at-risk, with disabilities, and acquiring English as a second language will be examined.  Additionally, this course provides targeted strategies of instruction, such as metacognition, use of technology, vocabulary building, visualization, and critical thinking.  This course requires 45 hours of field experience. Fall. Prerequisite(s): EDU 585.
