EDU 415 - Differentiation and Data-Driven Pedagogy, K-8

4 Credit(s)
This course is designed to explore the literature, theory, and current practices used in differentiating instruction in elementary classrooms (P-8). Teacher candidates will advance their professional knowledge, skills and abilities in applying concepts of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and other approaches for instructional differentiation. Additionally, this course will support teacher candidates in understanding MTSS (multi-tiered systems of support), a framework for responsive teaching and learning which focuses on using data-informed decisions to provide all students with high quality instruction and interventions which meet each learner’s needs. At the heart of this course, and of all education, is the need for awareness of the importance of social-emotional learning (SEL), linguistically responsive instruction, and culturally responsive pedagogy. Experiential learning activities in this course will challenge candidates to apply course concepts to instructional design, assessment plans, data sets, individualized educational programs for K-8 learners, and to ongoing reflection on how to simultaneously design and sustain responsive classroom environments. $5 course fee
